There are few languages Jo speaks more fluently than the language of bullets and blood and right now this “Bosnian Fuck” is speaking her language. Soon he'll be dead, minus a finger and Jo will be home, money in the bank, gently kissing goodnight her adopted children. Jo never planned on being a Mother, she also never planned on getting kicked out the Army and eating Bosnian for dinner, but here she is, full to the brim on all three.
If sweat is the equity of success, then blood and pain are the currency of the contract killer, and Jo knows she must extract that blood from the heavy set Bosnian who stands before, Galib (42.) His fists pound her torso and face like a hammer to concrete. Kill the Bosnian, cut off his pinkie, dispose of the body, bring in proof of kill, get paid. There is nothing else.
After taking care of the large Bosnian and his crew, while simultaneously fielding calls from the babysitter Isabella and the kids, Jo makes her way across the Texan desert to mission HQ, an underground bunker beneath a local strip club. She's weary and battle-worn, but this is the most important phase, “kill confirmation”
Kosmo, the lab tech confirms her kill, “Go with God my child,” but not before Jo grabs a handful of cortisone shots, to numb her cracked ribs. Snaking through the main floor of the Red Rooster strip club, she arrives at wrought iron doors. Inside the doors rests Iman, her handler, a seasoned operative with years in the game. Iman confirms Jo's kill, and initially turns down Jo's pleas for a new contract, the same evening, but Jo plays her “I have two hungry adopted children at home” card and Iman folds out of pity and friendship.
Iman hands Jo her new killfile, a local boy, doesn't have to be pretty. He's a “redneck trucker” with a bad tobacco habit and an attitude to match.
After completing a purposely messy kill, designed to send a message, Jo enlists the help of the organizations clean up and delivery crew, who take care of the mess and deliver Jo home safely back to her abode.
Arriving safely home, Jo staggers to her front door, a working mother coming home to her children, sleeping safely in the bosom of suburbia. She checks in on the kids, Jordan and Sophie, two angles fast asleep. Creeping down the dark hallway into the living room, she spies the babysitter Isabella, asleep on the sofa, the flickering of the TV the only light in the dark room.
The late-night news on TV speaks of a man, late 30s, murdered outside a dinner earlier that evening, a police investigation has been launched into the gruesome murder. Jo barely reacts to the news. All is well in the Rose house, time for a well-earned bath, maybe a glass of wine, even cold-blooded killers enjoy a glass of Chablis.
Bath running, bath-bomb fizzing, Jo inspects her reflection in the mirror, her reflection is as broken as the day has been brutal. Sweat mattered hair, cracked ribs, bruises and cuts. Jo begins to cleanse her face and cut off the tips of blood-soaked hair.
Living room, Isabella, the sleeping babysitter’s eyes flick open, she sits upright, grabs her phone, punches in a number sequence, asks the operator for "Kill Authorization" her kill request is denied. Isabella is having none of it. “Bullshit, I've been on this “puta” for 8 months, it’s her. I know it is. Isabella cuts off the phone -- tosses it on the sofa. Shaking with anger -- she dives into her overnight bag, pulls out 3 pieces of nickel-plated metal. Individually they appear innocuous -- within seconds they form a brutal knife.
She strides menacingly down the hallway towards the bathroom. “This is for Bravo unit Bitch”, the ensuing fight is brutal, loud, but quick. The children wake, race down the hall to investigate the commotion, Jo places the dead Isabella into the bath-bomb coloured water, props her head up with a towel, a tired babysitter taking a well-earned soak.
The children bound down the hall, Jo meets them at the doorway of the bathroom, ushers them out, as not to wake the sleeping Isabella. Back to bed they go, this time Mum gets to tuck them in, kisses for both, lights off. Jo stumbles back down the hallway, into the bathroom, past a resting Isabella, into the shower, the warm water cascades down on Jo as she crumples to the shower floor, exhausted, in tears, an overworked mother, crying alone in the shower.
Flashback, courtroom, we see a younger Jo Rose, in army fatigues, standing before a Military Judge. The Judge brings the gavel down hard. “Sergeant Jo Rose. Pursuant to Section 892, Article 92, of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, you are hereby dishonourably discharged, effective immediately.”
Jo’s face -- stoic. Her heart -- racing. The Judge continues, “For the crime of disobeying a direct order and endangering the lives of your Unit, resulting in the death of all but one. You have violated our code and brought shame to the Ranger Core. Jo remains emotionless.

Those tools were a Glock 17 and a screwdriver, both proved equally handy, as her father taught her “the business.”
Achieving her first kill at age 11, Iman soon got a reputation as one of the most contract killers on the market. Having caught the eye of the organization, she's now a handler, with 17 trained killers under her care. Depending on her mood, she'll cut you or hug you, unless she has a soft spot for you, a soft spot that Contractors like Jo use to their advantage.
ETHAN (28)
It’s real simple, talk shit about Texas State, and he'll cut you. At 6'2 and 210lb, he'll cut you deep. An ex-Texas State Linebacker, with a firm grip and a big smile, he's one of the new line of recruits to the organization. Cocky, lethal and loves his job.
Recruited after a bar fight, with unfair odds, him vs six others (they stood no chance) he's loyal, dedicated to the mission and a helluva banjo player. That loyalty will be tested, as his friendship with Jo tests his moral code to his limits.
JORDAN ROSE (6)
A kind, shy boy, he misses his birth mother every day, but gave Aunty Jo a great big hug when she explained they would be living with her. The early death of his mother has left him vulnerable, but his heart is as big as his smile, a fact that troubles Jo, as she worries how he'll cope with the harsh realities of life.
KOSMO (22)

He sends 30% of his wages back home each month, to his parents in Cuba, he's the brains and beating heart of the operation.
A house music disciple, you'll either find him in the tech-lab, at an illegal rave handing out free high-grade molly or cleaning up a wayward contract killers fuck up.
It is only through labour and painful effort, by grim energy and resolute courage, that we move on to better things - Theodore Roosevelt.
Thicker Than Water is set in a world of action and consequence, blood and sweat, love and death. Taking place in the gritty world of lo-fi, high stakes contract killing, this ain't gadgets and villains, its sinew and sweat, each blow is felt, each bullet lethal, each kill takes its toll and leaves a mark. The action is violent and visceral, brutal in its effective simplicity, a knife to the windpipe, a bullet to the eye, a hammer to the head.
But at its heart, this is the tale of a single working mother, struggling to provide for the children she loves. A single working mother, who wakes early for work and arrives late, exhausted and overwhelmed, with a heart full of love and hope. Like any other mother, she uses her skills to provide for and protect the children she loves.
Gritty, handheld, with a cinematic realism.
In a never-ending battle to provide and keep safe those she loves, Jo devises a "retirement plan” that will set up her and the children for life. She has a number in her head and to reach that number, she will find her skills and resilience tested to the limit, taking on contracts of ever-increasing difficulty for higher earnings and greater reward. As a mother, her boundaries of love will be tested, her devotion challenged and her methods questioned, as she juggles the realities of day to day parenting, parent-teacher conferences and bake sales, scheduled in between, sniper kills and figure four leg locks.
She will betray those that trust her, kill those that get in her way and do her best to stay alive and avoid enemies that demand payback, as she leaves no obstacle standing in her desire to reach her monetary goal. Her desire to make a better life for her children, will see her come head to head with the organization, in a bloody season one climax, that directly puts in danger, the very children she has sacrificed to keep safe.
“ROOT OF ALL EVIL”
Between two unassuming buildings in Lower Manhattan is the organization’s stash house, affectionately known as “The Bank”, holding everything from gold bullion to bearer bonds and cash, a shit load of cash. Having betrayed those closest to her, to uncover the location of “The Bank” Jo attempts an audacious robbery, an act that sees her go head to head with some of the organizations most brutal killers, in a final Hail Mary, to secure her financial freedom.
No one has ever successfully robbed “The Bank”, because no one in the history of the organization has been stupid enough to try. If she can pull it off, she will have achieved the final step in securing the 3.2 million needed to secure her family’s financial freedom and future. Her love, devotion, skills and commitment, will be tested to their limits, in a brutal, high octane season finale, that leaves Jo, broken, beaten and battered...and possibly, a little richer.
“BELLY OF THE BEAST”
Not all contracts are straight kills, on a "locate & recover” the aim is to bring the target back alive. On a mission to the Bayou, Jo is sent to locate & recover Yaloon Takahashi, aka “The Wizard". Yaloon is the organization’s top Cryptocurrency miner. Having his fingers chopped off by the New Orleans chapter, would be bad for business.
Drive down to New Orleans. Infiltrate maximum security compound. Locate Yaloon. Exfiltrate. Return Yaloon to Organization. Get home in time for Jordan's recital. Help Sophie with Science Project. Make two sets of pack lunches. Strike Illegal side deal with Yaloon for 3% of all cryptocurrency mined for the organization, in return for safe passage back to Japan and the family he hasn't seen in 9 years.
